Supervisor Myrna Melgar tweeted Wednesday morning that the shooting occurred just before 10 a.m. inside the train and the suspect ran off the train at Castro Station and remains at large.
She says the shooting happened after a heated verbal altercation between the victim who was killed and suspect on the train.
Eyewitnesses said the second victim who was injured in the shooting was not involved in the verbal altercation, Sup. Melgar says. Police are unsure how crowded the train was at the time of the shooting.
The relationship between the suspect and victims is unknown at this time.

SFPD spokesperson Ofc. Kathryn Winters says this shooting has no apparent connection to hate or targeting of the LGBTQI community. Police are working to protect the community throughout Pride and no specific threats to Pride or the community have been made.
No description of the shooter is immediately available right now. Police are working to retrieve surveillance video from the train and Castro Station.
SFPD has set up an investigation at Castro Station but this is not being considered an active shooter situation. There is no lockdown in place in the area.
Castro Station is closed and will be throughout the investigation. Trains will not be stopping there.
SFMTA arranged bus shuttles to support service from West Portal to Embarcadero/Folsom.
Terrible news this morning: on the MUNI between Forest Hill and Castro station, we have been informed by SFPD that a shooting occurred inside the train. Two victims were shot. One is deceased and the second victim in hospital. Perpetrator ran out of the train at Castro station
